list of suitable boat building timbers

This is taken from the trend timbers timber species list of timbers
Their listing is quite extensive and I have extracted from their listing the boat building timbers

Some of the Australian timbers are almost unobtainable
Queensland Maple, Silver Ash and Australian Cedar being the hardest. Huon Pine is available but the cost is a bit hexy, 175 x 25 mm is almost $30 a lin mtr.

Lignum Vitau is extremely hard timber and even harder to obtain, not that we need it for any of our boats. It's a timber that doesn't float that's how dense it is!!

Trend timbers do not list Amoora as suitable for Boat building but Aust furniture timbers and so does Mathews.
Another tmber to use as a teak replacement that is also suitable is an African Timber that is very close to the teak look and feel without the oiliness is Afromosia.
