Bit of an update for all you dormant people out there in woody cyber space. The Nerandera boat is now sitting on the trailer (after initially lowering it down from the roof of the shed only to find that the friggin wooden mudguards weren't far enough apart, so the boat was not going to clear them...resulting in some more dodgy metal-work defabrication then refabrication...in the pissing rain of course. Lucky I'm such a good welder )

Last night I mounted the skeg and the prop shaft is pretty much in line. I may even get the motor in this weekend, depending on which direction my social compass points....bourbon-boat-bourbon-boat......BOURBON!! I am having a bit of trouble fitting the prop under the transom though...is it ok to grind off the excess bronze with an angle grinder or something?

Yes Darren the cranes are to lift the esky in. Andy wants us all to put our boats in at Williamstown and then motor across to Tassie for the Wooden Boat Festival, so I thought I should cater for an overnight voyage, hence the bigger esky. We could also drop into one of the Bass Strait islands en route and top up the esky with a couple of mutton birds.

Talk about a stressful experience!!! This is where I'm at currently: Motor's in and mounted, all coupled up to prop shaft, battery bracket fabricated (yet another welding masterpiece - lucky it's under the floor....wait...what floor? poo that's another dip into the wallet, and another job to do) Fuel tank will be installed this arvo, along with electric fuel pump. Auto electrician booked for wiring as soon as that's done....

Exhaust bloke booked for next tuesday, but will hopefully fire it up this weekend with no exhaust just to make sure it actually will 'fire up'

I'm about to get on the phone to Vicroads to book boat and trailer in for rego, no doubt that will be yet another hassle free bureaucratic shitfight

Oh, by the way, the chevvy aint gonna make it this time round. I will be able to ready one or the other for Nerandera...so it's got to be the boat

Good luck with with the trailer rego.
I spent an hour on the phone last week going through all the details just to make an appointment. By the time we got to the end, the appointment time I wanted had been taken by someone else. They couldn't offer me another appointment that I could get to for another two weeks! I tried again on Tuesday by presenting myself at the Broady VicRoads branch, only to be told I could only make an appointment. So I said, OK, do it. The response? "Sorry sir, the system is down. If you'd like to wait, we'll call you". After 45 minutes, I walked out. You try to be a law abiding citizen (well, some of us do), but sometimes they just won't let you.
What a pathetic system.

And for the reasons that you have outlined above Greg, I have the trailer registered that exists under a boat that I am yet to restore. I figure it is heaps easier to keep the rego going and pay the minimal annual fee, than go through all the VicRoads grief when I'm ready for the road. Good luck!

Here in SA they've decided not to give rego labels for cars or trailers! You are supposed to keep our receipt as proof of registration but there have been reports of people from SA having hassles interstate trying to convince the local police that their vehicles are registered. It can really only be confirmed if the police get online to SA rego dept.
Supposed to be saving money but rego was still increased?!
