Gees Darren.... If I was the adjudicator I would go with yours.....it sounds so technically correct... and Dave......I had similar in mind...butt blocK behind the join.
Hey jeff.... what about this one from a chippys point of view......when you cut a length of timber and find its wrong....therefore ending up with 2 short planks and a bit thick in the head for cutting it wrong........but how the hell does this tie in with boats???????

Hey hang on - :o :o thats it Dave.......your logic and my analogy
when you cut the plank(lapstrake) wrong...you have to butt block behind the (now) extra join therefore having 2 short planks thickened.....
obviously this would only occur where the boat length was relevant to the maximum obtainable length of timber....get what I mean....
A top question Jeff...........c'mon...are we getting close???

Ok time for a new question thats back on track and is very interesting
There was in the 1930's a revolutioary world leading race boat that was raced in Sydney
Amongst its many features it included a forward facing propellor
What was its name
what were some of its features
what happened to it that ended its career
and where did it happen

If the resident historian Mr DP answers I expect an essay not a one liner

Ill let some one else have a go for a little while. It was a really radical boat even by todays standards.
