Sorry Brian. The boat was called Firebolt. The stepped Hydro was designed by the famous aircraft designer Wackett.
The boat was built in 1929 and powered by a WW1 Maybach Zeppellin engine. With the propellor forward of the step it pulled the hull through the water. It did around 60mph but rolled over in a turn on Rose Bay.
Wackett went on to design another hydro called Cettien. With its V12 Liberty engine it went on to win the Griffith cup several times. After WW2 a merlin was fitted and it ran under the name of Sunray 2. It too rolled at over 80mph.
Both these hull were radical for there day.
Wackett went on to design several well know aircraft for CAC (commonwealth Aircraft Corp).
