I was saddened today to learn of the passing of Melbourne boat builder, Keith Simpkin.
As most would know, Keith was a boat builder of considerable repute, building many, many boats in his Melbourne workshop through the 60's, 70's and 80's. Keith's skill and expertise was reflected through the quality of build of his boats and the fact that so many of them still exist today is a legacy of his workmanship.
Thanks Keith. A great bloke, a real character. You built countless wonderful boats over the years, many of which are still well remembered and many of which are still being enjoyed today.
On behalf of the members of the Classic Australian Wooden Power Boat Association, as well as the speed boat community in general, I would like to offer Keith's family our most sincere sympathy and condolences on this sad occasion.

Yes Greg,
Keith was a gentlemen of great dignity.
He had a calm disposition with a good sense of humour.
An incredibly skilled craftsman, building boats of outstanding quality.
He willingly shared his knowledge, back when I had none.
He re-found Steinway and Toledo for me, for that I am eternally grateful.
And those boats will live on with my children as testament to his skill
passion to build quality boats
My thoughts go out to Dorothy and the family.
He'll be sadly missed

Such sad news. Keith built my first skiff. He was a very modest man and much under rated as a boat builder. A true gentlemen whose legacy lives on with the boats he crafted.
