Some things just aren't meant to be. The spraying of the deck didn't get done because I tried to fit the water pump and close the hatch. FAIL 1.
I had to cut a clearance cutout in the engine compartment fwd deck beam for the front boss on the water pump pulley. That went reasonably OK but fitting the bolts for mounting the water pump was a bitch. Of course the ones that I bought specifically for mounting the pump are nowhere to be found. Spent about 2 hours trying to find either the bought ones or suitable replacements. FAIL 2
I also had make a larger cutout in the engine hatch frame to clear the taper of the pulley. It looks a bit ugly at present FAIL 3 but by the time it's all sanded up and varnished it should be OK.
The way that the the cooing water pipes have been set up will also have to be altered as they also hit the underside of the engine hatch.
At the rate that I'm going it might be finished for the next flood!!!
Seriously, this is all starting to wear a bit thin with all these set backs. I seem to take a number of steps forward on the rebuild and then a couple back. I know that it is progressing but gosh it seems progress is slow.
I probably should have put it in the water over Christmas rather than fitting the engine. At least that way I would have had some floating photos to appreciate rather than still looking at it on a trailer.

Re: our project
February already.
Since Australia Day I seem to have done not much but progress has been made. The weather is not really good for laying down of varnish. I put another coat on the deck and engine hatch last Saturday by brush. Sadly the heat had the varnish drying too quickly and as such the start/stop brush strokes showed off. If also meant that it dried hard enough by the Sunday afternoon to hit it with some wet and dry.
Now ready for a calm warmish day and then I will spray a top coat.
Stainless steel for exhaust system has been sourced and it is really local. Like 3 streets away.
I'm going to measure it up. Cut the components to suit and then get it welded. I'm hoping that they can polish the welds as well.
The engine hatch has had to be modified quite a bit to get clearance for the water pump pulley.
When taking the boat away over Christmas break I found that the lights on the light bar didn't work properly. They do now. The plug on the end of the wiring was corroded and all shitty. I rewired a new plug and guess what the lights all work as they should. Another bloody miracle or maybe a success.
Upholstery should be ready next week as should be the name and rego stickers.
So it is getting there finally. I missed another deadline over Christmas so I've given up with them. It will be finished when it's finished.

Re: our project
In the last couple of days I've re-routed the cooling water system discharge into the exhaust manifold. Today I picked up the sections of the exhaust and fitted them. I'll now take them back and get them welded into the flanges. Probably get that done on Saturday.
The name stickers and rego numbers arrived today. They look great
Rego number is QK478. Name is! All will be revealed in good time.

Re: our project
Deck still isn't finished. I've been slack.
So if a boat has a heart, a nervous system and an arterial system. We have done the heart transplant, have got the central nervous system partially installed and have been working on the arteries.
I have been getting all the stuff ready for the cooling system and rerouting the pipe work from the pump and getting the pulley on the pump right.

Re: our project
The cooling system is all hooked up. The copper pipework has been re routed as necessary. I've run the hoses for the water pickups and the hose for the bilge pump.
I had the cushion changed to put some zippers in the bottom and have cut and put some 3" foam in instead of the 2" that was fitted before. It has taken all the bagginess out of the cushions.
To do the cushions I bought full sheets of the 2" initially then 3" foam and used a bit less than half a sheet of each. So if anyone is after some either 2" or 3" foam drop me pm or an email.
See you at Williamstown!

Re: our project
After picking up the windscreen frames yesterday, tonight I started working out where to locate the frames. They will be in place but the front Perspex may not be fitted as the screen has to be shortened. Obviously the boat it came off was quite a bit beamier than ours. I will polish the current screen up and see how it comes up.
Trailer to be registered on Friday with a bit of luck. This will be the third time to Vicroads for a simple thing but they seem to have a different requirement every time I go there. Very frustrating

Re: our project
Windscreen frames screwed in place and an MDF template made for the windscreen. The shape is nothing like the one that Doc gave to me.
Not sure if I have time to get Perspex and make a new one so the project may debut with just the template in place.
It's amazing how just adding the frames changes the look of the boat.
Name stickers to be installed tomorrow so it will debut with a name. Not too many hints but it will pop up where and when least expected
Greg bring the camera and you should have a photo of the long anticipated unveiling for the next hollow log. But remember it's still a "work in progress".
