Hi all
Decided to join after a short "lurking" period.
I have 3 wooden power boats ( projects - which my wife refers to as 'litter') .
First is a 1967 Seacraft powered by a 202 Holden engine with the original Seacraft conversion gear. The engine has lots of 'go fast' bits including a Garret turbo. I have had this boat for 5 years or so but have no history on it. Current name is "sticky fingers" which will be changed soon. I have taken off the deck and am restoring the hull. The sides will be varnished if the ply is good enough, the rest of the boat is in good nick.
Second, is a boat known to this forum as "Old Flame" a 12 foot skiff , previously "Alfresco" And "In M Ocean" built by Sid Long in 1970, clinker built over a frame. Powered by an Escort engine (Kent 711 block) which is quite quick and a barrel of fun. The Canary yellow paint on the deck has now been removed (can't cope with a painted deck). The deck had no less than 7 layers of paint on it only to reveal plywood in very ordinary condition, possibly why it was painted in the first place. I have stained and varnished regardless which seemed a better short term option given the other projects on the list.
Third, a recent barn find "Lightning III " another 12 foot skiff. This boat had been sitting in a barn for 25 + years and needs everything. Lightning has a long history built in the sixties by Gill or Gill Marine? and still holds the Australian speed record for its class. This is more or less a full re-build which will take 12 months or so. I will post a new thread about Lightning III in the restoration forum...
If anyone has any history about these boats please let me know. I will attach photos when I can work out how...
Nice to meet you all, will be attending Nerranderra (all be it boatless).
