Got a friend out today and we spent the day stripping out the interior linings floors etc.. Found that all the battens on the starboard side had turned to powder. Looks like the copper nails affected them somehow. The funny thing is the port side is like new.
Ive removed the transom planks and am going to try a slide the new battens in from the rear rather than removing all the planks. Now the fun begins. :D

Hey Dave. Those battens that turned to powder - could it be insect attack? Some borers do that - powder post beetles etc. Be careful they aren't in the other hull timbers! Cheers. Nick W.

Darren Ive been sidetracked with doing a new motor for Atomic for the bridge race this weekend. To top it off I wasted a whole day today in court from 9am till my case was finally heard at 4pm. Now Im walking for the next 3 months. The bad news is I now dont have a job. The good news is I have heaps of time to get the boat done. I did get the battens organised on the weekend. Hey Bob how many nails have you got left and what size are they? There is none around and I need a few. Ive got tons of Roves. Dave

Every cloud has a silver lining Dave! I've got some nails (not heaps) but they are at Paynesville so I have no real idea how many or what size. Some were long enough to go through the two planks, others the planks plus a rib. I got my nails from Marinesport in Melbourne Ph (03) 9584 3098 - they had reasonably good stock at the time. The other place to try is the Wooden Boat Shop at Sorrento (Melbourne) (03) 598 44 333. Hope this helps you a bit.

I have been doing a little bit on the boat. Repairing Atomic and working has slowed the project down. I sent all the Chrome parts to Paul in Adelaide to be done. Im planning on Launching the boat early next year.

I trust there will be an official launch and some sort of shindig. That could be a good reason for me to travel from Akuna bay all the way up the Hawkesbury. I look forward to it!
